The world is a very different place compared to this time last year, even just a couple of short months ago. Where we took for granted simple day to day activities including meeting new people, event walking past a stranger without desperately trying to keep your distance all whilst giving a slightly embarrassed yet knowing nod.
Now everything is different and we may feel there are so many things we feel we cannot do, or are simply unable to. Whilst much of the world is in lockdown or have been furloughed leaving us with so much free time than we have ever had before, yet also the uncertainty of our futures crossing our minds daily. We can at least help alleviate some our concerns, certainly financially during this unexpected downtime.
The money advice service has put together an extensive guide of steps you can take and where to look for specific advice for you to consider. However, these really are extreme and unprecedented times and whilst there is plenty of advice out there if we look for it, we may feel we need support from an expert who can advise us on our specific situation.
Luckily like many companies, a lot of financial advisers are able to operate as normal and remain almost unaffected whilst working from home. In normal circumstances many of us would prefer to meet the person we have chosen to look into our finances in person. However, with this not currently possible, good advice is still out there, we just need to know where to look and know how it will work. Here’s a few tips and what you can do:
Where to find my financial adviser?
You can find an adviser by simply searching with AdviserBook, just pop in your post code and select the advice you are looking for in the filter. Then simply choose your adviser and on their profile, you will find their contact details, so you can contact them at your convenience.
How can I build a relationship with my adviser over the phone?
People like working with people, and building relationships is vital to form trust and a hopefully long lasting and good rapport. At the moment, normal face to face contact isn’t possible and a phone call can feel impersonable. There are a host of ways we can start to build a relationship with your adviser via video calling or video conferencing.
Most financial advisers will be used to this by now and it’s a simple way of meeting virtually face to face. If you aren’t particularly tech savvy do not let this put you off as most as simple to use, although it might be worth asking a family member or someone you trust to help if they can.
Some video conferencing tools include Zoom, Google Hangouts to name a few, and most are free!
Will I get as good advice remotely as I would face to face?
We may feel that the advice we receive without the benefit of meeting face to face might not be as good or extensive as we would hope. We may forget to find out or ask about something that we would have face to face during a conversation. However, the benefit of online is that you can contact your adviser any time and they will be happy to come back to you with the advice you need.
Working with an adviser remotely could actually speed up the process and help things move on much more smoothly. And its good to remember, using AdviserBook you can find an adviser local to you, so when the lockdown is over and the world goes back to normal after COVID-19, future advice could be handled in person.
If you have concerns about your finances don’t feel you have to wait
There is plenty of advice out there and a financial adviser will be happy to help you. We are all facing uncertain times both with our health and wellbeing as well as our financial health and future, but getting financial advice if you need it sooner rather than later can certainly help your wellbeing and potential financial concerns. So, if you are concerned, don’t wait! Find your adviser today and get the support you need.
